Pornography

On our 50th episode, Dave delivers on his promise to Katee and Corbin to do his own topic!  And so, we have a show on porography–one of those things that everyone loves to hate and hates to love.  We discuss the economics, the workers, and the consumers of porn, along with some of the deeper questions such as whether a feminist should ‘rescue’ women from the porn patriarchy, what women may find empowering about participating, and some of the reasons people say they work in adult films in the first place.

This week the Katee, Corbin, and Dave chat about two papers which discuss migrant women’s health outcomes and the experiences of Somali refugee mother’s birth experiences in Norway and Minnesota. We talk about the intersection of culture and health and how values influence health systems.

Maternal Mortality – A close call (with Amy Dean)

A few months ago, a listener named Amy Dean wrote in after our maternal mortality episode to tell us her story. We asked her to join us and share her experience and current advocacy efforts for other patients like her. We are so happy she called in and chatted with us!

Menstrual Synchrony

We had a lovely listener write to us with a question: “Why do periods start to sync together when living with other girls?” So we decided to investigate. Join the Vagibonds as we uncover the answer to this question and dive in to the nature of scientific study and research bias.
